Platinum crucibles are mainly used for TGA or DSC measurements attemperatures above 640'C. SDTA and DSC curves measured withplatinum crcibles are usually better than those obfained using cru-cibles made of alumina, which has a poorer thermal conductivity.They can also be reused. After mechanical cleaning sfore them, if needbe, in waler (or even in 10% hydrochloric acid) because mamy saltsare soluble in water. Oxides fom chlorides in hydrochloric acid, whichcan then be removed by rinsing. After drying, heat the crcibles to redheat to ensure that no weight loss occurs when they are used.

Waming: Mollen metals form alloys with platinum very easily. This canresult in a hole being fomed in the botlom of the crcible. And soot(or carbon black)is a so-called platinum poison in a non-oxidizingatmosphere. in the 1600 °C fumace, a crucible can stick to the cm-cible holder, which is also made of platinum. This can be preventedby placing a sapphire disk (ME-00017759)on the crucible holder.
