MgO Crucible Test Standards

1. Verify that the correct cupels are used for the test.

2. Ensure that the cupels are clean and free from any impurities.

3. Heat the cupels in the furnace at a temperature of 1100 to 1200 degree centigrade.

4. Take out the cupels and place the sample in the cupel.

5. Put the cupel back in the furnace and heat it for another 10 to 15 minutes.

6. Take out the cupel and observe the color and the appearance of the sample.

7. Record the result and compare it with the standard.

Crucible OEM Requirements

1.The OEM requirements for MgO cupels may include the size, shape, thickness, and other qualities of the cupels.

2.The customer may also specify the desired grade of MgO for the cupel, such as high-grade, medium-grade, or low-grade MgO.

3.Additionally, the customer may require the cupel to be treated with a specific coating or have a specific finish.

4.Depending on the application, the customer may also require that the cupel be fireproof, insulated, and/or heat resistant.

Packing and Shipping

FAQ

1.Q: What are magnesia (MgO) cupels?

A: Magnesia (MgO) cupels are ceramic-like disks made from magnesia (MgO) and other ingredients which are used to assay precious metals. The cupels are heated in a furnace to a temperature that is hot enough to melt the metal sample, while not melting the cupel itself. The cupel absorbs the impurities in the sample, leaving behind the pure metal which can then be weighed and its purity determined.

2.Q: How are magnesia (MgO) cupels made?

A: Magnesia (MgO) cupels are made by mixing the magnesia with other ingredients including alumina, silica, and borax. The mixture is then formed into a dough-like consistency, which is then pressed into a round disc shape. The cupels are then dried and fired in a furnace at a temperature of approximately 1700°C.

3.Q: What are the benefits of using magnesia (MgO) cupels?

A: Magnesia (MgO) cupels are highly absorbent, meaning they are able to absorb more impurities than other types of cupels. The high temperature of the furnace allows for more complete melting of the sample, and the cupels are able to withstand the heat without melting. The cupels are also relatively inexpensive and easy to use.
